Custom Navy Shiplap Fireplace Media Wall with Niches in Dallas, Texas
This completed project in Dallas, Texas transformed a wide living-room wall into a custom architectural entertainment feature with a frame-style television, linear electric fireplace, open display niches, integrated lighting, and contrasting wood details.
The design is a customized hybrid from our C-Series Cabinet & Display Media Walls. It combines elements of the Shiplap Fireplace Media Wall with Niches and the Fireplace Media Wall with Storage.
A Hybrid C-Series Design
Rather than reproducing one model exactly, this project combines features from two C-Series directions.
From the Shiplap Fireplace Media Wall with Niches, the design takes:
A unified floor-to-ceiling shiplap composition
Symmetrical open display niches
Integrated shelf lighting
A central TV and fireplace arrangement
From the Fireplace Media Wall with Storage, it takes:
A strong central fireplace build-out
A substantial wood mantel
Horizontal display and equipment surfaces
A balanced entertainment-center layout
The result is a custom configuration developed specifically for the dimensions and architecture of this Dallas living room.
Deep Navy Shiplap Finish
The entire built-in is finished in deep navy blue vertical shiplap. The dark color creates a dramatic focal point while the narrow vertical lines emphasize the height of the installation.
Using one consistent finish across the central structure, side niches, and lower base allows the full wall to read as a single architectural composition rather than a collection of separate components.
The navy background also provides a strong contrast for the natural wood tones, black fireplace, television, and displayed artwork.
Integrated TV, Soundbar, and Electric Fireplace
The center of the media wall organizes the room’s primary entertainment components along one vertical axis.
A frame-style television occupies the upper portion of the wall and can display artwork when it is not being used for entertainment. A soundbar is positioned directly below the screen, while a wide linear electric fireplace is integrated into the structure beneath the mantel.
The equipment placement was planned as part of the construction, allowing power and media connections to be incorporated into the wall instead of remaining visible around the finished installation.
Contrasting Wood Mantel and Display Shelves
Stained wood elements introduce warmth against the dark blue shiplap.
A substantial floating mantel visually separates the television zone from the fireplace. Matching wood shelves extend through the side niches, while a long lower ledge connects the entire composition across the wall.
The wood components feature a softly weathered gray-brown finish that complements the room’s neutral tile flooring and existing furnishings without competing with the navy background.
Symmetrical Open Display Niches
Open niches on both sides of the center section provide space for artwork, decorative objects, books, and media equipment.
The shelves are arranged symmetrically to maintain visual balance. Integrated lighting beneath the upper wood elements highlights the television area and display zones while adding another layer of depth to the dark finish.
Because the niches remain open, the homeowners can update the display over time without changing the built-in structure.

Designed Around the Existing Room
The wall sits between existing architectural openings, so its width, depth, and proportions had to be carefully coordinated with the surrounding space.
The finished structure creates a clear focal point when viewed from the seating area while preserving circulation through the room. Its symmetrical layout feels substantial enough for the wide wall without visually overwhelming the interior.
From Construction to Completion
The process photographs show how the finished design was developed in stages.
The main structure was built around dedicated openings for the television and electric fireplace. The vertical shiplap treatment was then installed and finished in navy blue, followed by the wood shelves, mantel, lighting, electrical components, television, soundbar, and fireplace.
Protective coverings were used throughout the installation to help safeguard the flooring and furniture while finish work was completed.
