Custom Slat Media Wall with Floating Cabinet in Charlotte, NC

This completed media wall project in Charlotte, North Carolina shows how a simple TV wall can become a full architectural feature without making the room feel heavy or overbuilt.

The concept started from our A-Series Affordable & Stylish Solutions and the Floating TV Panel Media Wall model, then developed into a wider custom wall-to-wall installation tailored to the room, existing TV, storage requirements, and the client’s preferred darker color palette.

The completed media wall combines vertical wood slats, a custom floating TV panel, integrated ambient lighting, a long floating media cabinet, open display shelving, and dark painted architectural sections. The result is modern, clean, functional, and visually balanced.

From a Blank TV Wall to a Complete Entertainment Feature

Before the project, the room had a wall-mounted television with a small temporary console underneath. The large wall had enough width for a much stronger composition, but the existing setup did not use the available space.

Instead of adding another freestanding entertainment center, we designed a custom built-out that extends across most of the wall and creates one integrated media wall system.

The new installation organizes the TV, storage, display shelves, lighting, and decorative finishes into a single architectural feature. This approach also keeps the floor visually open because the main cabinet is floating.

Vertical Wood Slat Media Wall

The central portion of the wall is finished with vertical wood slat panels. The warm wood tone introduces natural texture and creates contrast against the dark surrounding sections.

Wood slat media walls work especially well in modern interiors because the repetitive vertical pattern gives the wall depth without relying on heavy decorative molding or large amounts of stone.

Here, the slats run nearly floor to ceiling and establish the main visual background for the TV installation.

Floating TV Panel with Integrated Backlighting

A large custom TV panel sits in front of the wood slat wall. Instead of mounting the television directly onto the slats, the TV is framed by a dark floating panel.

Integrated LED lighting behind the panel creates a soft illuminated outline around the TV. This separates the panel visually from the slat background and adds depth during evening viewing.

This solution develops the idea behind our Floating TV Panel Media Wall, while adapting the proportions, materials, storage, and lighting to a much larger wall.

Full-Width Floating Media Cabinet

The lower portion of the installation includes a custom floating entertainment cabinet spanning almost the entire width of the composition.

The cabinet provides concealed storage for media equipment, accessories, and everyday items while maintaining the clean appearance of the media wall.

Its dark finish connects visually with the TV panel and side shelving sections. The floating installation keeps the flooring visible underneath, which helps a large built-in feel lighter.

Symmetrical Floating Shelves and LED Lighting

Open shelving was integrated on both sides of the central TV wall.

The floating shelves provide space for books, artwork, objects, and personal decor while preserving a minimal structure. Vertical LED lighting along the side sections adds another layer of illumination and emphasizes the full height of the wall.

The combination of backlighting behind the TV panel and vertical accent lighting at the shelves makes the wall work differently during the day and at night.

A Custom Media Wall Built Around the Room

This project is a good example of how our pre-designed media wall concepts serve as a starting point rather than a limitation.

The original idea evolved according to the actual wall width, TV size, room proportions, desired storage, lighting plan, colors, and finish selection.

Our collection now includes multiple pre-designed media wall models, ranging from simple TV feature walls to fireplace media walls, cabinet systems, high-ceiling installations, and larger custom entertainment centers.

Each design can be adjusted to fit the architecture of the home.
